European and Latin American Languages and Cultures –
The benefits of learning another language go well beyond just being able to communicate—it actually changes your brain. Study a European language and culture and gain a global perspective.
Discover the richness of European languages and cultures. Choose from the four languages offered at the University.
The second most widely spoken language in the world and the national language of 22 countries, Spanish is used in Europe, Africa, and North, Central, and South America. It's also increasingly used as an alternative to English in the USA. It's a logical choice if you want a career with an international focus.
Your courses will get you reading, writing, and having conversations in Spanish as soon as possible. Study the rich diversity of cultures and histories in both Spain and Latin America, and explore literatures and language in greater detail. Delve into important current issues such as ethnic diversity, historical memory, and national identity.
Join the student-run Spanish and Latin American Club and enjoy social and cultural activities. Take advantage of the University's close relationships with the Wellington-based embassies of Spanish-speaking countries.
If you want insight into Spain and Latin America, as well as the language skills to launch an international career, Spanish is right for you.
