Making cutting-edge hardware for a digital world

Electrical and electronic devices like computers, mobile phones, and power systems have made the world we live in today. Others will shape our future—like spacecraft, autonomous electric vehicles, renewable energy systems, and new communication networks.

Electronics is the study of the way information moves around inside a device, through components like circuits or microprocessors. These days computer systems work closely with electronics, using code to replace large electronic chips—meaning we can create smaller, smarter devices.

When you study Electronics at Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington, you’ll be developing and designing real systems and components for the world we live in today, and helping to create those that will shape our future.

Hands-on learning to support the concepts

Develop your problem-solving muscles and build an engineering mindset. Take a look under the hood, sharpen your knowledge of the theory, and get your hands on the tools. You’ll be part of a creative and exciting environment, learning from your peers as well as talented academics.

You’ll have access to labs and the latest equipment that you can use freely for your projects, including oscilloscopes and signal generators, microphones and speaker arrays. Explore the technology and tools—and while you experiment in the lab you’ll deepen your understanding of the theory that you’ve been learning.

After you graduate

A career in electronics requires vision and enthusiasm, as well as a deep grounding in the theory. Our graduates are working to think of new and exciting approaches to design solutions that can help to develop and improve our world.

Our graduates go on to diverse careers—from emerging start-ups to the biggest tech companies in the world—in areas that include renewable energy, robotics and mechatronics, automation engineering, and electrical engineering.
