Find out what’s in the Executive MBA programme and how you’ll study it.

What you’ll study

Core courses

You’ll complete eight core courses that will give you a solid grounding in key business opportunities and issues. These include topics like executive leadership, culture and change, corporate financial management, strategic marketing, and digital transformation.

Elective courses

You’ll complete four elective courses from a range of topics including innovation and entrepreneurship, negotiation and dispute resolution, and strategic management.

Professional development

You will attend professional development activities as part of each core course. These include a wide variety of subject areas related to personal development, leadership, business, and technology. Typically, your core course timetable will be split equally between professional development and class time.

Workload

The average workload for each course will be about 10 to 12 hours per week, including lectures and workshops. This will vary from week to week depending on your readings, assignments, and workshops.

With intensive study, you’ll complete three courses per trimester over four trimesters. You’ll complete your EMBA in about a year and a half. As an international student, you are not allowed to study part time.

Qualification family structure

The Executive MBA has a tiered family of qualifications:

  • Postgraduate Certificate in Business Administration (PGCertBusAn)
  • Postgraduate Diploma in Business Administration (PGDipBusAn)
  • Executive MBA.

As an international student, you must study full time. This means you are not eligible to enrol in the PGDipBusAn or PGCertBusAn.

Where you’ll study

You’ll be based at Pipitea campus, near the Wellington Railway Station in Wellington’s CBD.

Doing a PhD

An Executive MBA may not involve enough research to qualify you to apply for PhD study. Talk to your programme director to find out what extra study you’ll need to do to qualify for studying a PhD.
