Game Design

Gaming is a growing area within design-related industries going from strength to strength in recent years and is now worth more than the film and music industries combined. The New Zealand gaming industry grew $120 millon in annual revenue over the past year, which signals the need for more professional game designers. This major will prepare students to become well rounded graduates and leaders within the industry.

Programme requirements

For this degree you'll need to:

  • Complete at least 120 points from 200- to 400-level courses offered in the Bachelor of Design Innovation, of which:

    • At least 75 points shall be at 300 level or above

Subject requirements

  • For a specialisation in Game Design, you will need to:

    • Complete at least 75 points from 200- to 300-level courses required for the corresponding Bachelor of Design Innovation major

      • At least 45 points must be from 300-level courses with the associated subject code

Important information

  • At the discretion of the associate dean, up to 30 points may be selected form other programmes offered by this University. Within the Design for Social Innovation specialisation, up to 30 additioinal points may be included from other programmes where these courses form a cohesive unit of study within one of the areas available as a minor within the Bachelor of Design Innovation.
