If you're a Wellington secondary school teacher who'd like to do a university course this summer, our new professional development grant might cover your tuition costs.

Who can apply

You’re eligible to apply if you are:

  • A New Zealand Registered teacher, in either a permanent or long-term relieving position at a secondary school within the Wellington Education region.
  • A citizen or permanent resident who meets one of the University’s domestic admission types.
  • Not a currently enrolled student, and not currently studying either full-time or part-time at the University.
  • Intending to enrol in a Victoria University of Wellington course that begins on 11 November (the first week of Trimester 3, 2024).
  • Qualified with a Bachelor's degree.

Course or qualification

If you're only interested in doing a single course, select Certificate of Proficiency when you apply. If you'd like to work towards a qualification, such as the Master of Secondary School Leadership, we recommend contacting us to discuss the possibilities. What to provide

The main information that you’ll need to provide as part of your application is:

  • The name and number of the course that you'd like to study.
  • A personal statement outlining the professional development benefits you hope to gain from doing the course (100 words or fewer).
  • A short endorsement from your school's principal, Head of Department, or equivalent to confirm your employment and comment on the suitability of the intended course (100 words or fewer).

When to apply

Applications open on 25 September 2024.

Applications close at 4.30 pm on 25 October 2024, but may close earlier if the funding limit is reached.
