Learning and assessing wellbeing-ness in an age of global educational change
In this year's Dean's Lecture, Wellington Faculty of Education Dean Professor Stephen Dobson explores what it means to learn and create a culture of wellbeing where inclusion and belonging are central.
Only a few years ago this would have been understood in terms such as social and emotional learning, but now the buzz word globally and especially in New Zealand is wellbeing. The challenge is twofold: Firstly, how to conceptualise and practise wellbeing-ness (his term); Secondly, to assess and put a culturally appropriate value on it and in so doing, move beyond merely a taxonomy of the emotions—resilience and exclusion.
