New education qualification caters for capital city professionals
A new postgraduate qualification being offered at Victoria University of Wellington in 2017 gives people working in the education profession the chance to gain high-level qualifications while continuing to advance their career.
Victoria’s Doctor of Education is open to experienced professionals holding a Bachelor’s degree with Honours or a Master’s degree who want to enhance their practice by carrying out research in their field, while continuing to work in their professional role.
Dean of Education Associate Professor David Crabbe says: “The Doctor of Education is a part of the Faculty’s commitment to fostering an advanced understanding of professional practice in education.
“Our well-established Master’s programmes in Education, in Educational Psychology and in Secondary School Leadership appeal to a wide range of educators. The Doctor of Education is a final step for those who want to explore in even greater depth the significant educational issues of our time.”
Since enrolments opened the Faculty of Education has accepted 17 students, whose course work will begin on 6 March.
Associate Dean (Research), in Victoria’s Faculty of Education, Professor Carmen Dalli says: “This is a really excellent response from the educational community. We are very excited with the calibre of the applicants. The programme has clearly captured people’s imagination and we are delighted at the enthusiastic response from the educational community in the greater Wellington region.
“Being in a capital city means we have a large number of education professionals who are ready for a new challenge, but don’t necessarily have the time or means to return to study full time.
“This new flexible programme will meet the needs of those education professionals, by having them apply their practical knowledge to study while continuing in their careers.
“We anticipate having students from a range of education settings including government organisations, principals, teachers, and non-governmental organisations. The richness of experience they will bring to one another’s research and studies through working in a small and interactive group will be a unique highlight of our Doctor of Education.”
Enrolments are now open for the Doctor of Education and more information can be found at www.victoria.ac.nz/education/study/postgraduate/doctor-of-education.
