Culture and language

This research analyses data surrounding language and culture, including te reo Māori education, as well as fictive and autobiographical narratives.

Te reo Māori revitalisation

Our research uses a dynamical systems model to investigate the potential impacts of possible interventions, such as te reo Māori education.

This will inform what resources and strategies are most effective to meet the Government's target of one million speakers by 2040 and ensure the long-term survival of the language.

Extracting psychological constructs from text

We investigate the psycholexical hypothesis by using the latest advances in natural language processing and network science. For example, we attempt to trace personality and value structures in fictive narratives, including the Gilgamesh epic, novels by Charles Dickens and Jane Austen, and autobiographical stories.
