Dr Jennifer Zhao completed her doctoral degree in 2015 at the Institute of Electronics in the Chinese Academy of Sciences. She worked at the Human-Computer Speech Interaction Lab of Tsinghua University, where she researched computer-assisted language learning using speech recognition and computer graphics techniques (2011–2015). She then moved to CAS’s Institute of Information Engineering, where her research focused on machine learning and its applications in understanding images and processing audio signals (2015–2017).

In 2018, she joined the Computational Media Innovation Centre (CMIC) at Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington as a postdoctoral research fellow. She is now contributing her background in machine learning and computer graphics to CMIC research projects such as one on predicting image-based global illumination.
