On the 6th of December, Confucius Institute at Victoria University of Wellington received a delegation of 48 teachers and students from Confucius Classroom at Wanganui High School. For this campus visit, CI at VUW organized two special cultural events, including one Martial Arts and one Chinese Painting.
This is the biggest delegation CI at VUW had ever received from outside the Greater Wellington Region. After the morning tea, the students and teachers attended the Martial Arts workshop at the Recreation Centre. The workshop was conducted by Fanxiao Meng, the CI Martial Arts teacher. In the workshop, the students were taught the Wubu Qan (a five-step taolu) with the related weapons.
The second workshop they went to was Chinese Painting, which was conducted by Madam Ping Ching Mabbet, the QSM winner, founder and chairperson of the Oriental Arts Society in Wellington. She is also a CI’s Chinese Painting teacher. The students and teachers were most impressed with her sophisticated painting technique and beautiful paintings. Everyone took up the painting brush and began to mimic her painting immediately.
Beck Ding, the Chinese teacher and organiser of the delegation, expressed their appreciation to CI at VUW for organising the workshops for their students. It provided a great opportunity for the students to experience Chinese cultural workshops. They plan to bring more students to visit CI at VUW in the future.
Confucius Institute at Victoria University of Wellington always welcome delegations like this and hope to see more people appreciating and enjoying the Chinese cultural workshops in the future.
