Partnership formed between two China Centres

Pat Walsh, Rob Rabel and Xiaoming Huang meet officials at Fudan University

"This new partnership agreement will significantly enhance the relationship between the China Research Centre at Victoria University and the China Research Centre at Fudan University" said Professor Pat Walsh, Vice-Chancellor of Victoria University of Wellington to his host, Professor Qin Shaode, Chancellor of Fudan University. Professor Walsh, along with Professor Rob Rabel, Vice Chancellor International of Victoria University and Professor Xiaoming Huang, Director of the New Zealand Contemporary China Research Centre, met with Professor Shaode and other senior university officials and scholars in their visit to Fudan University on the 9th of November, 2009.

Professor Qin Shaode endorsed Professor Walsh's remarks and expressed Fudan University's full support for the partnership between the two China Centres and broad areas of exchange and cooperation between the two universities.

The agreement sets up a range of programme and projects to be carried out between the two centres in institutional cooperation, joint conferences and research projects, students and staff exchange, resource sharing, and advance training programmes. In signing the agreement on behalf of the Centre, Professor Huang expressed his confidence that such an agreement sets an example in international cooperation in China studies. Professor Deng Zenglai, Dean of the Fudan University Institute of Advanced Studies in Social Sciences and Director of Fudan University Centre for Contemporary China Research Centre, echoed Professor Huang's view and remarked that with the two China centres joining hands, we are aiming to raise the quality of China studies both in China and New Zealand, and in the world.
