Vigoss visit – Zengcheng District

Today we visited the factory of Vigoss, which is a clothing manufacturer located in Zengcheng, part of the economic golden corridor of eastern Guangzhou.

Zengcheng is a newly developed industrial zone, which prides itself on its ecological living. The area has witnessed significant growth over the past couple of years due to the push from the Chinese government towards innovation and development.

Vigoss exports its clothing to several parts of the globe, with the United States and parts of Europe being their most notable markets. 

They have positioned themselves as a quality manufacturer and take pride in what they produce with strict quality controls, which is evidenced with only 1-2% of product defects per 700,000 garments produced.

Because they are completely vertically integrated within their manufacturing processes they have complete control over the end product, which gives them a distinct competitive advantage within this market.

Vigoss have resisted the urge to import cheaper textiles from local markets, but have instead developed supply chains with high-end suppliers from the United States and Australia.

This allows Vigoss to produce a high quality product, which is needed in the high-end fashion, game in Europe.

There are 10 brands under the Vigoss umbrella all of which are designed by Italian fashion designers who travel to the factory in Zengcheng to create the lines.

The inspiration is distinctly European, however there is a Chinese flavour adapted for the local market. Vigoss also supply their quality garments in expensive packaging, (example below) which in turn adds value to the prospective buyer and allows Vigoss to pitch their brands at the intended price point to maximise margin throughout their range.

It was quite interesting to find out that Vigoss import their materials from the United States, fully produce the product in the factory in Zengcheng then ship the end them back to the United States. for resale through one of their distributors or through their own direct to market strategy.

Vigoss are a significant player in this clothing market with over 6000 staff employed locally at the manufacturing plant in Zengcheng. Unfortunately the factory had experienced some flooding overnight and we were unable to go through and witness the manufacturing process.
