The menu at KFC had all the traditional style meals

Today we travelled to Jiangnanxi for the Strategy Challenge leg of our overseas study trip to Hong Kong and China.

The first task of the day was to navigate our way to the local metro train station from our hotel and catch the subway to Jiangnanxi where the challenge would be begin.

Our initial task was to locate a food outlet, order lunch and then analyse the restaurant in regards to their competition locally.

We decided on KFC as we were all looking forward to some Western food. The menu at KFC had all the traditional style meals that we are all accustomed to.

However there were some localised options, which suited the needs of the local market. Anton ordered the Teriyaki chicken on rice, which he thoroughly enjoyed, saying "it was finger looking good".

The next stage of the challenge was to identify two different retail shops, which were selling similar products in close proximity to each other.

We selected two shoe shops, which were in opposing corners of the underground shopping mall. The distinctive differences were that one had a very distinctive European flavour with the other one being a typical Chinese corner shop.

Both shops had similar price points but one was attempting to position itself as a quality retailer trying to add value through European influence.

On our departure from the mall we came across a shop, which had a very creative way of catering for bored husbands while their wives or girlfriends shopped.

There was a nice waiting area outside the shop with a distinct Parisian influence. This was also a creative approach for drawing attention to the shop, which was situated outside the busy mall.
