Chair in Business in Asia
Active from 2014 to 2020, the Chair in Business in Asia created and shared knowledge promoting effective New Zealand business engagement with Asia.
Sponsored by BNZ bank, the Chair in Business in Asia emerged from a partnership between Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington and three New Zealand Government agencies:
- Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT)
- Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE)
- New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE).
Core activities of the Chair in Business in Asia
The Chair concentrated on four core activities:
- High-quality academic research on Asia with a business and policy focus—The Chair's research sought to build knowledge of Asian markets, business culture, and business practice. This included national and international research collaboration.
- Executive education—The Chair sought to build capability in the corporate and SME business sector, in the public sector, and in the professions—including law firms and business consultancies working with New Zealand clients on their commercial operations in Asia.
- Practitioner-informed undergraduate and graduate teaching programmes—Academic, business, and government contributors collaborated to build knowledge and awareness of Asia among future business leaders.
- Public education programmes—The Chair aimed to reach a broad range of business people and the wider community. The Chair was established to enhance work relating to strategies and policies for New Zealand firms competing in Asia.
