Helping parents to support their autistic children

This study looked at the impact of home-based ESDM parent training on five young autistic children, and their mothers.

Over 12 weeks, the mothers were given one hour a week of home-based ESDM parent training. The children were between 1 and 5 years of age.

Main findings

• Four out of five parents increased their use of the ESDM techniques during the training.
• Four out of five children showed some improvement in engagement, imitation, or communication.
