Visa and travel

A visa may be required if you are travelling to NZ from overseas. We have prepared useful information on visas and what you can do when planning your trip.

Visa waiver countries to enter New Zealand

Passport holders from some countries do not require a visa to visit New Zealand. Access a full list of visa waiver countries on the New Zealand Immigration website.

Visa requirements for transit through Australia

You will need a Transit visa (subclass 771) if you plan to travel through Australia to another country. If you are going to stay in Australia for longer than 72 hours, you cannot get a Transit visa and you will need to apply for another type of visa.

Visit the Australian Department of Immigration and Border Protection website for more information on the requirements for transit visas.
