Glaciers and ice sheets in a changing climate
Professor Mackintosh explains how recent breakthroughs help answer questions about past, present and future glacier and ice-sheet response to climate change.
Inaugural lecture—Professor Andrew Mackintosh
September 2018
Ice sheets and glaciers are currently undergoing exceptional changes, causing sea-level rise and affecting water and food security for millions of people. However, in many cases, and particularly in Antarctica, we do not know whether these changes are unprecedented, and to what degree humans are responsible. Predicting future glacier and ice-sheet behaviour also remains a major challenge.
Join Professor Andrew Mackintosh, director of Victoria University of Wellington’s Antarctic Research Centre, as he explains how recent breakthroughs are helping us answer questions about past, present and future glacier and ice-sheet response to climate change.
This is Professor Mackintosh’s inaugural lecture as Professor of Earth and Climate Sciences at Victoria University of Wellington.
