Kate began her career in Christchurch, although after spending the last 30 years in the capital city, she now proudly identifies as a Wellingtonian. Her professional journey is characterised by a strong commitment to public service, where she has gained experience in finance, transformation programs, and senior human resource roles.
Before joining Te Heranga Waka---Victoria University of Wellington in early 2025, Kate was the Head of People Operations with the Civil Aviation Authority. Before that, Kate was the Chief People Officer at the Ministry of Education. While she enjoys all aspects of human resources, Kate has a particular passion for modernising people and payroll systems, emphasising easy self-service options, and automation to enhance organisational efficiency.
Outside of her professional endeavours, Kate has four adult children and is Nanny Kate to five mokopuna. In her spare time, she enjoys umpiring netball at Kapi Mana, Porirua, and spending wonderful summer hours in her garden.
