Asifa Hanif
Asifa Hanif is an elected student representative on Council.
Asifa Hanif is currently studying Software Engineering at Te Herenga Waka, and is a passionate advocate for equity, inclusion, and student welfare. She believes in the importance of accessible and high-quality education systems that empower all students to succeed despite challenges. Asifa is committed to creating a supportive student environment that upholds fair pay, safe working conditions, and equal rights, particularly for women. She is a strong advocate for Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles, recognising the Treaty’s significance in ensuring respect and partnership with Māori.
In her time as a student ambassador and a tutor, Asifa has worked to make university life welcoming and accessible. She is also a member of the Carterton Youth Council, where she creates digital content to promote social issues, reflecting her dedication to using technology and communication as tools for positive change.
Asifa views Te Herenga Waka as an exceptional place for education, which provides a nurturing environment where students can thrive. She values the university’s commitment to inclusivity, cultural respect, and innovation, all of which align with her personal goal of serving the community. For Asifa, education is not just about personal advancement but also about using her skills and knowledge to give back, creating positive impacts that extend beyond the campus. She is dedicated to helping others, particularly through advocacy, community support, and fostering an environment where all students feel valued and empowered.
