Our vision

320 The Terrace will be the University’s ‘front door’ to the city.

The name that was gifted to this project—‘Te Huanui’ or ‘Huanui’—denotes a pathway and the prosperity gained along one’s journey. Due to concerns around financial sustainability, this project was paused in 2023.

In 2024, the Wellington City Council recommended rejecting the Independent Hearings Panel recommendation to retain the heritage scheduling of the Gordon Wilson Flats in the 2024 District Plan be rejected. WCC also recommended that the final decision be referred to the relevant government minister.

On 8 May, the Minister for Resource Management Act Reform rejected the Council’s request to delist Gordon Wilson Flats and nine other buildings from the heritage list in Wellington’s District Plan.

We remain encouraged that the University’s written submission to the panel was supported by Councillors, and we support the Mayor in her request to make the process for delisting heritage buildings easier.

Our plans for the site are now on hold until we can address the site's heritage status.
